Penny Craft

I saw this on Pinterest and loved the look immediately! I used a variation of the tutorial found here on the Crafted Sparrow blog.

This was fun to make and I gave it to my parents for their new kitchen.

Go Huskies!

This husky t-shirt quilt was commissioned by a friend of mine. He gave me a big bag of t-shirts to work with and while it was a little imtimidating, I finally got to work! Each of the squares is 15" and the black sashing is 2.5 inches wide. This turned out to be pretty big & heavy when it was done!

Getting the binding on.

Fun paw print quilting.
Huskies on the fron, huskies on the back!

Pink Pups

This blanket was made for a little girl who is on her way! Her momma loves puppy things, but had trouble finding girlie puppy prints. I found this pattern and paired it with a hot pink minkee swirl! No mistake that this is for a girl!

All done!

This is a follow up on a t-shirt quilt. To see the original post, click here.

I'm honored to be able to create this quilt for someone as a way for her to honor her late mother. I am so grateful to be a part of that. This weekend it finally goes to it's forever home. There was a lot of black in this quilt so I chose a tone on tone swirl pattern for the back, and a fun polka dot binding.

Off to the Quilter

Sometimes it is necessary to send some of my work out. When I get a request for a large quilt it makes more sense for me to have someone else quilt it. Anything larger than a twin can get tough to quilt on my smaller machine.

The lady I have used recently has a long arm quilter with computerized stitch options--it's pretty amazing! It takes up a whole room (a large room) and while it is still work, at least she doesn't have to wrestle the quilt through the tiny opening of a regular-sized machine. You can find her here, at Riverside Quilting.

Without borders

With borders, folded in half

Most recently I sent out a t-shirt quilt and another quilt that has been in process for at least 12 years. It was to be a wedding gift for a friend and after sewing a whole line of triangles backwards, I got frustrated and put it away. There it stayed until I finally had enough! It is now quilted and just needs binding before it goes to it's forever home.

Butterfly stitch

The t-shirt quilt is also ready for binding and then off to it's forever home as well.

Cupcakes in a jar!

It's true--I saw this on Pinterest and had to try it for myself!

While I used a mix and store bought frosting, I used the instructions from this website.
I got the free printable tags here.
The spoons came from Party City.

I used these as a favor for a brunch I held. I loved sending guests home with an afternoon treat!

Ava's Blankie

Miss Ava Jane turned one and I made this blankie especially for her!

I love the fun colors with the white background, and the gray minkee on the back makes it extra cuddly. When she opened this gift the first thing she did was cuddle it to her sweet little face!

Owl Tote Bag

I saw this owl fabric one day and had to get it! It is a heavier weight fabric and immediatly a tote bag came to mind. A dear friend of mine is an owl fan so I made this for her! I really love making things that are useful.

Custom Order

What I love about custom work is the anticipation of two visions taking shape. Maybe it is something in a different size, maybe different colors--either way I love the process and making something specifically for someone is especially rewarding.

This one is off to be loved, snuggled and dragged everywhere!

Peanut Butter Cup Mini Donuts

I have a coworker who might enjoy baking as much as I do. The only problem: he thinks he can do it better! This has resulted in two challenges so far--rice crispy treats and today's challenge--mini donuts.

I won the first challenge with Pumpkin Spice Rice Crispy treats. I found the recipe here: http://www.shugarysweets.com/2012/10/pumpkin-spice-rice-krispie-treats. The biggest challenge for this recipe is finding the seasonal pumpkin spice pudding mix!

Today's mini donut challenge brings his Red Velvet donuts and my Peanut Butter Cup Mini Donuts. I found the recipe here: http://www.thegunnysack.com/2013/10/baked-peanut-butter-cup-mini-donuts.html.

A couple tips: if you do add chopped peanut butter cups to the donut batter, it may clog the piping bag and become super annoying. Just sayin'.

Finally Finished!

I started this one back in February and finally finished it! You can find it for sale in my shop here.

I love the bright colors and how they contrast with the gray. I also love the bright yellow and white polka dots on the back! This quilt could work for a boy or a girl. It has a cute gray and white herringbone binding.

African Pillow Shams

A dear friend of mine went on a once in a lifetime trip to Africa and brought back some fabric. She asked me to make two pillow shams from it and I have to be honest--I was afraid to cut into it! Not like I could run out and get more! Isn't is beautiful? Luckily, they turned out great, though I would have liked to make the overlap bigger in the back.

There is some scrap fabric left over . . . I think I may do something special with it. I'll post it here if I do!

The Replacement Lovey

I'm not a mom BUT I know the value of comfort and having happy kids! A repeat client reached out to me to make a replacement lovey for her son. You know how this goes--it has to be EXACTLY the same! She sent me measurements and a couple pictures and here you have it! The replacement lovey!

I hope this does the trick!

Quilts are up!

I've added more items to my Etsy shop! See them here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/FroggyFace

The baby quilts that I have completed up to this point are now available in the shop. I love making baby quilts as the size seems just right for me! I'm not fighting a huge heavy quilt and the tops come together quickly. I love a quick project where I can see progress!

Simply Style by V and Co. for Moda

I have been waiting impatiently for this fabric to make its debut! Simply Style by Vannessa Christenson for Moda if finally in the fabric stores and I am in love! When it caught my eye they were still taking the plastic off the bolts! I wanted 5 yards of everything but settled for a yard of this beautiful green and one other that you will see on a future project.

I paired it with this beautiful chocolate brown minky for a fun modern baby blanket.

See Vanessa's whole Simply Style line here.

Happy First Birthday Baby Darin!

Though this quilt was completed a while ago, I decided to put it away for Darin's first birthday. It's a very simple panel with added borders but what really makes this special is all of the quilting! Shirley did some fabulous free motion quilting on this that really takes it from just being a panel to being fabulous!!

Picking Stitches

I hate when I think I have got something down and the next thing you know, it's backwards! Out comes the seam ripper! Have you ever noticed how much more careful you become after something like that?

Sister Quilt, 16 Years in the Making

When she was about 6 years old, I started this quilt for my little sister. Now that she's 22, I thought I should finish it . . .

We both agree that the fabrics feel a little outdated but we can appreciate them for what they are. She got to choose the back and decided on a cute gray & white polka dot print. I'm happy to have another one if my UFO's (unfinished objects) finished!

Custom Swim Robe

I received an order for a custom swim robe from a sweet friend for her little girl. She was having trouble finding exactly what she needed so we decided to work together. She needed something that was actually absorbent and could keep her girl warm and dry after swim lessons. Here's what we ended up with:

The fun part about custom orders is when your client gives you free range. She told me the colors her girl liked and I selected a purple terrycloth for the robe and lined the hood and belt with a fun girly flower print. I used a hot pink bias tape to give the edges a nice finished look and I attached the belt in the back. The reason I did this is because we all know that kids WILL lose belts. No question about that! By attaching it it won't drag on the ground or get lost.

My favorite thing about custom orders is when the recipient loves the item. That is what I love the most about sewing things that people use.

Girlie Quilt

This was a fun quilt that used fabrics I already had--even the back! Perfect for a little girl to cuddle up in or drag around the house!

Oh Deer! Boy Quilt

When I saw the Oh Deer fabric line I knew it would be perfect for a little quilt! I had fun splitting up the boy colorway from the more feminine color way and getting two quilts out of one charm pack.

Here is the boy quilt:

I used a red print from the collection on the girl quilt. This was an adventure for me as it is a bright and busy quilt. I did half square triangles and sewed them on point for a different look. Here's a shot of the quilt top:
